That is the same problem we've been having with ours. The light is a sensor to let you know there is something wrong with the coolant/water in your radiator. We are in the midst of changing the thermostat to see if that might be the problem or not. I also have a 98 intrigue and when that happened to mine. It turned out that a plastic tube and the gasket was worn out...I found out when the motor blew up..don't wait take it to your mechanic and have him replace both..I it will cost you about 300.00 instead of 2000.00(and that was a deal my mechanic gave me) it cost me...oh and that light light is telling you..your coolant is low..make sure you check both
