There really is no easy answer to this question. The U.S. Department of Labor lists the average salary at about $129,000. However, where you live is a major factor. Most attorneys are located in major metropolitan areas (ie New York, Los Angeles etc) where the cost of living is higher and therefore wages are higher. A lawyer in Fort Wayne Indiana could make $100,000 and a lawyer in a similar firm in New York for example could make twice that. The main difference in pay depends on whether you work for a private law firm or if you work for the government such as a public defender or prosecutor. A new lawyer in the government sector can expect to make $40k to 50k per year starting out while a first year attorney for a law firm could easily make over $100k. Hope this answer helped.
