Many Christians believe the Godhead is composed of 3 separate and divine beings, thought this is not in the Scripture nor was it a teaching of Jesus or His Apostles in the Early Church nor the Patriarchs and Prophets in the Old Testament. Yet, this belief in the 3 Person Godhead is 'the central doctrine of the Christian faith' per The Catholic Encyclopedia (1912 edition).

Since its inception, it would be fair to say that this doctrine of the trinity has been the source of much confusion. If it was a vital teaching as is claimed then according to the book 'The Trinity' by Roger Olson and Christopher Hall, "It is understandable that the importance placed of this doctrine is perplexing to many lay Christians and students. Nowhere is it clearly and unequivocally stated in Scripture...How can it be so important if it is not explicitly stated in Scripture?"

If fact, the full-blown doctrine of the Trinity was hashed out in the 4th century at 2 great ecumenical or universal councils: Nicae in 325 AD and Constantinople in 381 AD. Before these time, the idea of a trinity was foreign to biblical writers but not to Greeks, Sumerians, Babylonians, Indians (country), or the Egyptians and others.

Having said the above then, this trinity doctrine has no impact upon my faith and the faith of those like me.
