Cartilage is connective tissue that covers the end of bone where there is a moving joint. Cartilage and synovial fluid make it possible for the joints move freely and without pain. If cartilage becomes damaged the bones in joints start to touch, resulting in pain and inability to move joint effectively. Cartilage is laid down first in the fetus where it is turned into bone leaving the ends where required covered with cartilage.

Cartilage acts as shock absorbers as well, particuarly in providing cushioning between the vertebrae.

Cartilage also holds its shape well, so it provides flexible structural support in places like your ears and your trachea.

Three jobs of cartilage are shaping, protecting, and gives your body flexibility.
Cartiledge is found in many areas of the human body. These areas include the ribs, trachea, nose, bronchi, ears, larynx and at the ends of bones.

Cartilage is a hard connective tissue, found in many areas of your body. Such as, between bones, the upper part of your ear, nose, knee and ankle. Cartilage prevents bones from rubbing together.

You can't as it is all bone or cartillage. If it swells, put ice on it, or have it drained, if it is really bad.
