In slides, you cannot always get the background colour you want. The colour scheme is where you can change your slide to approphiate colours (E.g, if you have a Notebook design template and you want it a different colour, you have to go onto the Colour Scheme.) On others you can have lots of colours, just by clicking Background.Try it! Go onto Powerpoint and have a little experiment.
