it means that the judge gave the jury proper instructions and guidance about how they should reach a verdict-this includes how to weigh up the evidence, advice on specific points of law, what level of agreement between them is acceptable and so on.Occasionally, judges omit key details or display bias and this can be a source of appeal on the grounds that the jury were misdirected.
In a court of law, the final decision is typically made by the judge if it is a bench trial (no jury). In cases with a jury, the final decision is made collectively by the jury based on the evidence presented and the law as instructed by the judge.
A grand jury is a group of people that are selected and sworn in by a court. A traverse jury is a trial jury selected to serve on a court case in civil or criminal court.
REASONABLE doubt.
The Supreme Court does not use a jury. The Supreme Court is involved in interpretations of the US constitution. A jury would not help.
A verdict card is a document used in legal proceedings, particularly in jury trials, to formally present the jury's decision on the case. It typically includes the jury's findings regarding the charges against the defendant, indicating whether they are guilty or not guilty, along with any specific questions or issues the jury was instructed to consider. The card is submitted to the court as part of the official record of the trial.
When a jury trial is scheduled for 9 a.m., jurors are typically instructed to arrive at least 30 minutes early, which means they should plan to be there by 8:30 a.m. This allows time for check-in, orientation, and any preliminary instructions from the court. However, jurors should always check the specific instructions provided by the court, as requirements can vary.
My honor ?
All a jury has to go on is what is said in court. However if a jury is doing its job properly they will focus on the EVIDENCE as stated in court by the witnesses and the guidance given to them by the presiding Judge and not what is said by the lawyers. However, in reality a jury will not be able to ignore what is said by the lawyers as they make their respective cases.
Scout can tell when a jury has found a defendant guilty if the jury foreman announces the verdict in court in front of everyone present, including the defendant, lawyers, judge, and spectators. The judge will then typically set a date for sentencing.
Little or nothing. After presentation of the case to the Grand Jury "probable cause" was NOT found by a jury consisting of your peers. You could try suing the perpetrator in civil court for damages.
The word 'verdict' refers to the judgment rendered by the court.
Jury trials are available at all levels of the court EXCEPT Appeals Court and Supreme Court levels.
