It represents tensions between those who believe taking away or limiting guns from the hands of the general populace will reduce crime, and those who believe taking guns away from the general public will actually lead to more crime. It also represents tensions resulting from the way in which various people interpret the Second Amendment. For example, those who believe the Second Amendment guarantees the public the right to keep and bear arms and those that believe that right is only guaranteed to the military.
