It subtly moves upward, since it is made of flexible tissue. However, the epiglottis is used in regards to the digestive system as it separates liquid from solid foods into the esophagus/trachea. Therefore the epiglottis only "moves" when he eats rather than when he inhales.
it closes up
it closess
it opens to let the air pass through! when you eat it closes so food doesnt go down your wind pipe. but sometimes when it doesnt you choke
When the human inhales, the epiglottis comes off of the trachea opening to allow air to flow down and into the lungs.
The epiglottis stand erect to allow free passage of air to the wind pipe or the trachea. You can easily see the epiglottis in widely open mouth.
Epiglottis
The epiglottis prevents the food you eat from entering the trachea.

It is called the Epiglottis. If you talk while eating, your epiglottis and your esophagus are open, so instead of going down the esophagus, it goes down the epiglottis. Have you ever heard someone say 'It went down the wrong tube' when you choke? This is what they mean.
the epiglottis closes over the food tunnel so that when he breaths he doesn't choke because when the wind goes down the food pipe that causes you to choke
It is the epiglottis.
That's your epiglottis.
