There are many theories on this. One is that the petal that fell off the flower is the drop of blood from the paper cut Bella got at her party before Jasper lunged at her prompting the Cullens to leave, and the blossoming flower is her blossoming relationship with Jacob. Another theory is that the flower is wilting which means Bella is dying inside because Edward left. I went searching for this answer at Stephenie Meyer's website, she had no control over the cover, it was somthing that the publishing company did, but the name New Moon is because a new moon is the darkest of dark nights and the events in New Moon were the darkest times in Bella's life.

In the context of the "Twilight" series, the flower on the cover of "New Moon" symbolizes the theme of transformation and rebirth in the story, as the protagonist Bella Swan undergoes changes in her life and relationships. The flower itself is a metaphor for growth and resilience, reflecting Bella's journey in the novel.

I know it only asks for the symbolism of the New Moon cover, but I'll tell you them all anyway :D

The apple for Twilight symbolises the forbidden fruit. 'The forbidden fruit always tastes the sweetest.' It means choice. It can also mean that Bella is in Edwards hands; temptation. It can also be because of the apple she dropped and Edward caught. That was the beginning.

The flower for New Moon is a ruffled tulip. It represents Bella, and how she wilts, but does not die in the experience in New Moon. It is meant to show strenghth, and beauty. The red parts are meant to symbolise her blood, where she smashes the bowl the flowers were in. It was a turning point.

The ribbon for Eclipse represents the ties of love and friendship. Although they are tearing apart, they are still hanging on by threads; not completely tarnished. It symbolises the pull between Edward and Bella. It could also be the scent of Bella to Edward, swaying in the wind. The red of the ribbon suggests this also.

The pawn represents the "old" Bella at her weakest state of being, only going in one direction, and then the queen represents her at her strongest after she was turned into a vampire, and could go in any direction. In the end of the book, if it wasn't for her, they may not have won the battle against the Volturi.

Hope that helps ;D

This is straight from Stephanie Meyer's website ( stepheniemeyer.com )=That is a ruffled tulip. As for the meaning... If you've read the Twilight FAQ, you know that the apple cover had a lot of meaning for me, and I was an active part of the covering process. However, that experience is more the exception than the rule in the publishing world. Something to keep in mind if you intend to embark on a career as a writer: lots of things you might expect to be under your control are not. Covers, for example. Those are mostly up to the publisher and the marketing and sales departments. So I don't know what the tulip means-I didn't have anything to do with this one.=

The flower on the cover for 'New Moon' symbolizes nothing. Smeyer thought it was pretty, which is why she slapped it on there.

If it could symbolize anything, I'd say the wilting flower symbolizes the intelligence the masses have(ie. none)

For me, it symbolizes my faith in humankind, specifically in how it's failing.

On the cover of the book, it is a flower that drops a leaf. The flower will represent Bella and the leaf will probably represent Edward, not too far away, but out of reach

The author, Stephenie Meyer said that the cover of new moon is a tulip, and means nothing to the book. She didn't pick the cover, and has no idea what it is meant to represent.
