It's basically a sexual comment.... for example: If you are doing an art project with glue, when you push the pieces together, You might say to your lab partner "Do it harder." Which would cause another person to say "That's what she said!" Referring to what a woman might say to the man during sex.

∙ 13y agoI'm pretty sure it originated from the television show The Office. The main character, Michael, says it when someone makes an innocent (non-sexual) comment to turn it into something sexual.
Example: if someone says "That looks really hard", then someone could say "that's what she said." The "she" would be someone the guy was having sex with and hypothetically she made that comment during the sex.
The "she" doesn't really exist. It's just someone made up who theoretically says a lot of sexual things.
But now once you get "that's what she said" jokes it's hard to refrain from saying them. You'd be surprised how often double entendres creep up in everyday life.
