Above the trachea is the larynx also called the voice box or glottis. Across the larynx are two tiny ridges called vocal cords. As air flows in from the lungs the vocal cords close together and vibrate creating sounds.

The larynx, or voice box, connects the pharynx to the trachea and consists of carilage, ligaments, connective tissue, muscles, and the vocal cords. The cartilage provides a rigid structural framework for the larynx and trachea below, making sure that the airways is open at all time.
Well as you probably already know it is part of the respiratory system and it is your voice box. Your larynx is where sound is, well, produceded. Your larynx also takes in air and sends it to your lungs.
It is the voice box and part of the respiratory system. It blocks the trachea and keeps it safe.
Its your voice box. It also controls airflow in and out of your lungs.

The larynx, often called the voice box, is an organ in the neck that is responsible for producing and controlling sound and also protects the trachea. The larynx, also known as the "voice box" is a muscle in the neck which allows us to make sound in order to speak, sing and make sound. In men, this stretches and becomes larger during adolescence thus they have deeper voices.

When the air ascends through the larynx, it meets the vocal cords, which are two fold of tissues that extend in both right and left sides of the larynx. The process of vocalization results from the air being carried up from the lungs and passes the edges of the vocal cords. When repeated at high frequency, the subsequent burst of air takes on a tonal quality which is called sounds or speech.

It vibrates while you are speaking. For example, you exhale air while talking. This air passes over the larynx and the larynx vibrates which causes sound. You adjust the sound with your mouth, tongue and lips, so it sounds like words.
