Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) also known as "Lou Gehrig's Disease" - is the progressing neurodegenerative disease that affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. It affects the motor neurons that lead from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles. This eventually leads to death due to the inability of the brain control muscle function bascially paralyzing the patient.
