The traditional meaning for this beautiful three syllable name comes from the Greek as "crown" or "wearer of the crown", i.e. a princess to her land, to the world, to her family. Actually, it is very common in Germany and other parts of mid and Eastern Europe. Most will say Steffi for short as a nickname. Also, this grand name is pronounced Stefania, even with the spelling ending in an e. Ee is Ah. Remember that, it's so beautiful to pronounce with the Ah. When America had the great migration (the true settlement of America) the name followed and was quite popular, but the spellings of names were changed. Stefanie became Stephanie, and those who chose to keep the "F"...we Stefanie's are very happy for you.
