Type your answer here... A Kindle is fragile. I once dropped mine on its corner on a tile floor. Busted. I had to get a replacement. But while a dropped naked Kindle is probably done for, IF you have a hard cover for your Kindle, and when you're not reading you keep the cover closed at all times to protect the Kindle, it's reasonably rugged and can probably handle a drop or two.
