The weldability of steels depends on its hardenability.

In general, the higher the hardenability, the lower the

weldability. Weldability can be evaluated theoretically by

use of the PCM value calculated according to:

PCM = C + Si/30 + Mn/20 + Cu/20 + Ni/60

+ Cr/20 + Mo/15 + V/tO + 5B.
