There is an entire line of thinking surrounding "quality of life" and such topics as euthanasia, being part of one's own planning for death when given a diagnosis of terminal illness, and many other "hot button" issues surrounding what is often called the "RIGHT TO DIE" movement.
This simply means that a person should (or should not, depending on your belief system and other factors) be allowed to die on their own terms.
For example, if a person is diagnosed with terminal cancer, and is told they will only live for 6 months, and most likely will be in a lot of pain and will suffer, then the "right to die" movement believes that this patient should have the right to choose a course of action that includes deciding whether or not to be allowed to , for example, take medications that will cause their death sooner than the terminal illness would.

The question that surrounds this entire topic is "do human beings have the right to die on their own terms, or should they follow a planned course of treatment by a doctor or someone other than their own selves?"
