The 13 stripes on the flags of the United States of America represent the thirteen (13) original states. The flag with "76" displayed under an arc of 13 seven-pointed stars is known as the Fillmore or Bennington flag. Another unique feature of this flag is that the alternating red-white stripes begin with a white stripe at the top rather than the traditional red stripe. Supposedly this flag was from the Battle of Bennington, Vermont (August 1777) and was supposedly carried off the field of battle by Nathaniel Fillmore and passed down through generations of the Fillmore family. However, recent comparisons of flag construction, weaving, and materials dates this flag to the War of 1812 era. Regardless, it is an historic flag from one of our Wars with the British and is a very unique design. The original Bennington flag is in a museum in Bennington, Vermont.
One question at a time. That makes it easier to search for it again. The Swastika was a symbol adopted by the Nazi party and Hitler made it a national symbol for Germany. It was worn by every military and government organization in some place on their uniform or hat. It was used in everyway; on official stamps, money and every military medal. Some had a small insiginia and you have to look closely to see it but it was used in many ways.
Crease? Do you mean "blood stripe?" The blood stripe which is the red stripe on Marine Corps blue trousers signifies the blood shed by those who fought and died in the Marine Corps.
this stripe refers to Artillery Men. By the early 19th Century each branch of the US armed forces was assigned a 'facing' colour and for the Artillery the colour was scarlet. By 1834 collars and cuffs of the jacket were trimmed with red surrounded by two cords of yellow. As a further distinction, officers and NCO's wore trim down the seams of trousers. Later, Artillery companies serving in the Mexican war, 1846-1847 were issued with uniforms that differed from the other corps by having a 3/4 inch stripe down the seams of the trousers. With the development of high velocity arms and ammunition in the early 1900's, coloured stripes disappeared in favour of drab uniforms. In 1924, uniforms were not attractive and to add some colour a stripe on the trousers, to be colour of the arm of the service, was introduced. With the advent of the 1940's war uniforms lost their colour. In later years a new regulation provided the army with a Dress Uniform, and for Artliiery Men, a Yellow stripe down the trousers
