The "Whitethorne" is an English Navajo family name. There is a famous artist name Baje Whitethorne today. Perhaps it is in his family. However, family names were give in odd random ways by US administrators and school officials so it doesn't mean they are really in the same family. For example "Begay" is one of the most common last name, it just means "son of" and was because of a confusion about Navajo grammar. Traditinally people introducte themselves by first they mothers clan and then there fathers clan.
