Tokolos is a creature from South African black folklore. They truly believe it exists. It apparently shreds you as you sleep on the floor, which is why most of the blacks sleep off the floor in hammock type beds. Some have even come forward with evidence of shred marks on their chests, but it's yet to be proven to exist. It still strikes fear into the majority of the ever-believing blacks though.
There is a similar creature in Zanzibar which has the form of a human through the day but at night is like a bat with finger-like claws.
