If you are talking about the city of Belleville in Ontario on the Bay of Quinte, that is a different kettle of fish alltogether. Belleville was originally named Meyer's Creek (one of the early settlers in the area John Walden Meyers). It was renamed in about 1816 after Lady Arabella Gore, wife of Sir Francis Gore who was visiting the area. Arabella shortens to Belle thus the name Belle village.
