'Peace and purity of thought' is the essence of Buddhism.

Buddhism provides a way to escape the ongoing unsatisfactory nature of life and the ongoing cycle of rebirths and death. It does this by starting from the basic identification of the problem (The Four Noble Truths) and provides a path to achieve enlightenment (The Eightfold Path).

Even if a non-Buddhist follows the ideas contained in the Eightfold Path they can make their life much more pleasant and meaningful.

ANSWER NO. 2- ( Phuntsog Wangchuk)

Buddhism doesn't give anything for a person who wants something in the way rest of the 5 billions people want across the world. Why? Because Buddhism gives everything for the wants that we don't know how to want. Want of a mango is not just the want as we understand. From a Buddha's eyes, wanting a mango means having a heartfelt appreciation for the people who plant it, do all hardships while growing it, climbing on it and picking it up, bringing them to the market, washing it, cutting it , putting it on the plate and distributing among people around including yourself. Therefore, If I say what a mango tree provides for the people. Than I must say, it gives nothing more than a tough burgain followed by a two minutes of quality control check for those who wanted the mango to get appeared on the plate. If there were people only wanting the mango to appear on the table there would have been no mango except for some wild ones. Mango is there today, because some more people wanted mango by making it to appear on the plate. Therefore, It is not the mango (Buddhism) that gives you or snatch from you. Importantly, It is you who give it to you or snatch it from you. Whether I like Mango trees or not, the tree is not affected. The tree is for whom? It is for humans, animals, insects and also for nothing.

Is Buddhism great? Is Buddhism poor? Is Buddhism scientific? Is Buddhism optimistic? Is Buddhism pessimistic? Is Buddhism a religion? All these questions are the reflection of our ignorance. One common answer is that Buddhism is none of the above in terms of how we understand those "WORDS". Why? because it is just the simple truth whatever you called it. It is like asking as whether breathing is important ( Yes for an alive one but no for a dead one), Is it beautiful ( Yes in the fresh air but no in a polluted air), What breathing gives ( Life for the living ones and death for the suicide ones) and so on.

In short, Buddha said, my teachings are like a boat, once the river is crossed you please abandon it. Don't try to put it on your back and carry- you will suffer for no use. What does it mean? Buddhism itself is a logic which is a continuum of the reality. What is that reality? It is the impermanent nature of the relative existence of universe. Therefore, Buddhism is strictly for a use and not for a title to be attached and desire for. He said, his teachings are not inventions, because a truth is already there. He is just formulating an approach to understand it and get rid of it. The biggest mistake is when you compare Buddhism with the principles of other ideologies and adamant on seeing it as a religion. Control everybody, including yourselves with love and compassion then be a hindu, muslim, sikh, christian or anything. Buddhism is not required for a living but you don't have the ability to deny the need of love and compassion. You become part of the problem as long as you don't accept this truth. Therefore, don't be a Buddhist but be a loving and compassionate heart. May all beings be happy.
