Not really sure it means anything! you will NEVER hear it said in Ireland. it may have some interesting historical origin in the usa but definitely not in Ireland

It is an old archaic greeting that was supposed to elicit the response "and the balance of the day to you".

this phrase is never used in Ireland and seems to be a total American invention. Most Irish people cringe when they hear it.
