The appendix is currently not in use for anyone. The appendix long ago was used by humans. We all know that back in the old days, such as mideval times, the food was dirty. The appendix attracted the dirt and cleaned the food so the human would not die of germs inside their body. Now, the appendix can get infected and burst, releasing poison into your body. If it does, it may kill you. It is on the right side near your upper hip. If you ever have serious pains there, your appendix may be affected. If it does happen, call your doctor. They have surgeons that will remove it before it bursts.
Scientists think it was originally used to help humans digest raw meat AND was much larger than it is today. However, over the millions of years since humans started cooking their meat (because it was easier to eat and safer) the appendix has shrunk in size and ceased in providing help with raw meat.
It's a vestigial organ, that remains from evolution but has no fontion nowadays.
That's one of the reasons doctors excise it when someone gets an appendicitis: it prevent another one, and there's any problem of living without it.

The brain in many cases . . . Most likely, every body part has a use. That we haven't discovered its use doesn't mean that it is useless. One example is the vermiform appendix in the large intestine. Doctors historically slice them out and joyously toss them in the trash, because 'What use are they, anyway?' Turns out that they recently found out that the appendix serves to hold several types of good bacteria. If a person gets a bad case of long-lasting diarrhoea, then the good bacteria may be completely washed out of the intestines. Enter the appendix, which dumps its little load of good bacteria into the gut, thus renewing the healthful bacteria population there, and helping to keep its owner alive.
