Blood sugar varies a lot over the day, between about 67mg/dL and about 140mg/dL in normal people. The lower levels are expected when fasting (like when you have just woken up), and the higher levels right after eating and for about 2 hours. If you have just woken up after not eating for 8 hours, then 126mg/dL is considered too high and a likely sign of Diabetes. Above about 180, your kidneys will start to filter out sugar and excrete it in urine, leading to the primary symptoms of diabetes: dehydration, excessive urination, and gradual starvation. Above this level for long periods of time (weeks) can cause cumulative damage to organs, eyes, fingers and toes.

425-900+ is life threatening immediately and may lead to diabetic coma.

When the blood glucose content in our body increases, the first mechanism in our body is to increase the production of insulin from the pancreas to decrease it.

If you're diabetic, you either can't produce enough insulin, or your body has become resistant to it, so the blood glucose content won't be lowered enough.

Glucose in high quantities is an oxidizing agent -- it slowly burns tissues on contact. This leads within hours to:

* feverish feeling

* extra urine production as kidneys attempt to dispose of excess glucose - leading to dehydration and thirst.

* slight but continuous damage to pancreas, kidneys, eyes, fingertips.

Over weeks or months there are long-term effects which tend to make diabetes worse. These include:

* Body acclimation to high blood sugar, making normal sugar feel 'low' and bad.

* Damage to cell walls causing insulin resistance and further impairing insulin use

* Damage to surviving pancreatic beta-cells, further impairing insulin production

In addition the rest of the body is affected:

* Nerve and circulatory damage to toes, fingers, and eyes (neuropathy, retinopathy)

* Kidney damage

* Circulatory and heart damage

The classical triad of diabetes symptoms is polyuria, polydipsia and polyphagia, which are, respectively, frequent urination; increased thirst and consequent increased fluid intake; and increased appetite.

Type 1 diabetes may also cause a rapid yet significant weight loss (despite normal or even increased eating) and irreducible fatigue. All of these symptoms except weight loss can also manifest in type 2 diabetes in patients whose diabetes is poorly controlled.

Blurred vision is a common complaint leading to a diabetes diagnosis; type 1 should always be suspected in cases of rapid vision change whereas type 2 is generally more gradual, but should still be suspected.

Patients (usually with type 1 diabetes) may also present with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), an extreme state of metabolic dysregulation characterized by the smell of acetone on the patient's breath; a rapid, deep breathing known as Kussmaul breathing; polyuria; nausea; vomiting and abdominal pain; and any of many altered states of consciousness or arousal (such as hostility and mania or, equally, confusion and lethargy). In severe DKA, coma may follow, progressing to death. Diabetic ketoacidosis is a medical emergency and requires hospital admission.

A rarer but equally severe possibility is hyperosmolar nonketotic state, which is more common in type 2 diabetes and is mainly the result of dehydration due to loss of body water. Often, the patient has been drinking extreme amounts of sugar-containing drinks, leading to a vicious circle in regard to the water loss.

After a meal the blood sugar level rises and an appropriate amount of insulin is released. The insulin causes cells muscles to become permeable to the glucose. In the liver the glucose is converted to glycogen. In this way level of sugar returns to normal.

When the amount of glucose in the blood becomes excessively high the condition is called?

A high blood sugar level (hyperglycemia) is when the level of glucose in your blood sugar is too high, for example if i tested my blood sugar (I have diabetes) and i was 15.7 I would have to take a correction dose to bring it down to its normal range of between 4-10 (I person without diabetes should be in the range of 4-7)

What happens when you eats too much sugar?

When we eat too much sugar blood glucose level increase which in long term can lead to Diabetes which is symptomize by high blood pressure. You could also get a sugar rush.

Blood sugar numbers?

When you test your blood for insulin rates in your body, a diabetic has numbers that come up on a test strip. If you are below 3 the number is too low. If you are above 8, the number is too high.

The action insulin on sugar levels in the blood helps ti?

It helps keep the blood sugar level from getting too high.

What cells in the pancreas play a role in diabetes?

Insulin...When the blood-sugar level in your body is too high, your pancreas produces more insulin which then allows the glucose to be absorbed by body cells. The glucose level will then reduce. When the Blood-sugar level is too low, your pancreas does not release insulin, which mean that less glucose is absorbed in body cells. The glucose level in the blood is therefore increased.

How insulin keep you healthy?

insulin is a hormone that controls your blood sugar levels. without insulin, your blood sugar levels could be too high or too low.
