All the ads showing features for the PS3 state Online connectivity requires broadband internet service and network devices such as a DSL or cable modem. Most people who have this also require a router and an ethernet cable or a wireless router to allow connection of more than one device to there internet service. Once the PS3 is connected with an ethernet cable or you have a wireless router then you go to the PS3 main menu settings and then the Network setting then network connections.
Your internet connection must be WiFi or Ethernet the PS3 can not be connected to the internet with dial up or mobile phones and you can not use something in the USB port to connect to the internet. The PS3 can never be connected to the internet with something that plugs into the USB port because it is not part of the PS3 design features and capabilities

You can not share your phone wireless internet with your PS3. The PS3 will search for a WiFi connection and if one is found it can be used to connect to the internet. If you have internet service it is not a problem to connect to the PS3
