The skeletal system is the boney framework for the body. Your skeleton helps provide support for good body posture and protects important vital organs like your lungs and heart.

The bones of the skeleton are connected by ligaments. Muscles attach to the bones via tendons. Where two bones meet it's called a joint. The bones of the skeletal system along with the support of ligaments, tendons, and muscles act as a lever and pulley system enabling movement of the body. As opposing muscle groups contract and release, the work of the muscles moves the bones.

For safe, healthy, injury-free movement it is important that the bones of your skeleton be held in proper alignment and the muscles be well-balanced for every joint to move freely and easily. From a structural perspective, the skeletal system is the foundation for good posture, functional movement, and health.
