Religious freedom. When king Henry the 8th separated from the catholic church in the 1500s, he created the church of England. In the 1600s, members of the church of England decided that the church was too much like the catholic church, and tried to leave it. however, it was against the law in England to go against the church, and those people who chose to leave the church had to flee from their homes, or face persecution. So many fled to the American colonies for religious freedom.
