British economist Adam Smith published his famous book on economics in 1776. He put forth the argument that Commercialism was not the best way to enhance a nation's economic growth or well being. He was an advocate of capitalism.As an aside, he also wrote about slavery. Legal in the British empire at the time. He deemed investments in slavery to be counter productive. The funds used for slavery would be better used in investing in factories.
