The answer depends on what field you would like to work in with regards to cosmetics. To work at the makeup counter in a department store you usually need prior experience and the cosmetic corporation trains you. There are many Cosmetology schools that one can go to in order to receive a cosmetology license. Some of these are private schools and some are vocational schools. With this license you can work doing many things such as becoming a makeup artist, esthetician, hair stylist, etc. There is also a major called Cosmetics and Fragrance Marketing, I know this is available at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC which teaches you the chemistry of makeup and cosmetics in addition to how to sell products. One can also attend any university and major in marketing or even communications and later work in the cosmetic headquarters marketing the products. Hope this helps a bit.
