Lincoln had a large impact on America. Before he was assassinated, he managed to sign the Emancipation Proclamation, which outlawed slavery in the seceded states [the South] during the Civil War. Although segregation would continue, especially in the South, until the 1950's, it was a huge step toward equality.
Lincoln's election, however, also increased tensions between him and the South. The South, predominantly pro-slavery, was angered by his changes against slavery [the Emancipation Proclamation] and that the North was not punished by the proclamation; it led to continued bitterness between the North and South. A Southern radical, John Wilkes Booth, would later assassinate Lincoln.
Abraham Lincoln was President of the United States. When some southern states decided to secede, they elected their own "president" Jefferson Davis. Lincoln remained President of the United States - all the United States - he just wasn't recognized as such by the southern states that seceded. He was not "President of the North".
I believe the answer to this question is the Republican Party which was form in Wisconsin in 1856 and was the party of Abraham Lincoln who was elected President in 1860.
President Lincoln
Hard question, because he was the president of the US at the time of the civil war. He sort of supported the north because he did not like slavery and did not want the slavery in the US to spread. But overall he was just trying to help both sides. Lincoln was president of the United States, which during the war was the North..He wanted to preserve the Union above all else, even if it meant not freeing the slaves..His own words....
because he wanted to abolish slavery and the souths economy depended on slavery for field work while the north had factories to fuel their economy
The South and North both elected their own governments. The North had Lincoln, while the South had elected Davis.
Abraham Lincoln was the North's president, and in the south, Jefferson Davis.
