john Locke was against divine right of kings. He was a decisive voice for individual freedom and religious tolerance. He participated in the drafting of the constitution of the Crown Colony of Carolina. At one point he was considered a traitor by the crown. His writings were taken by John Jefferson and used as the basis for the Constitution of the United States of America. You can see his words in "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness (Locke used 'the pursuit of property')."
