When humans remove an animal from the food chain, the predators and the prey of that animal are greatly affected. The predators die of starvation and the prey overpopulate. When the predators dies, the predators of those predators die, and so on. The opposite happen with the extinct animal's prey. It's prey overpopulate, then overkill their prey. Then the prey of those prey overshoot and collapse. Eventually these disturbances will make their way to humans in the the form of death and disease.

Since humans have existed, they are driving animals to extinction faster than any other species in the world. Anytime an animal becomes extinct, the food web suffers and if the extinction rate of animals continues on its current path, humans will begin to be affected by a lack of food.

If elephants become extinct, it will set off a chain reaction in the earth's environment that has devastating effects.

Many, many species are dependent on elephants for their survival.

First, elephants are very good at finding water. They can sound out where underground water is located and their tusks allow them to dig for water during dry times. These mudholes provide lifesaving water for other animals that might otherwise perish during drought.

Elephant also help native trees regenerate by pruning and helping prevent detrimental undergrowth. This eliminates overcrowding and promotes healthy habitat.

Elephants have been proven to have a positive effects on the local climate and help prevent devastating wildfires because of their presence in an area.

Elephant manure is extremely rich in nutrition and is a fertilizer, while also spreading seed for new growth of native plants. A fairly well known beetle, the dung beetle, lives on elephant dung. They help break up elephant manure and spread it around, plus use it to nourish their young as well as a food source. The beetle is dependent on elephant dung for its life and it in turn is an integral part of the food chain for many other animals.

Without elephants, other animals will go extinct; many things will grow wrong, and environmental systems could completely collapse.

Animal agriculture is the leading cause of species extinction. In addition to the tremendous habitat destruction caused by clearing forests for animal grazing and to grow feed crops, predators and “competition” species are often hunted because of a perceived threat to industry profits. The use of pesticides, herbicides, and chemical fertilizers in the production of feed crops interferes with the reproductive systems of animals and poisons waterways. The over-exploitation of wild species through commercial fishing and the “bushmeat” trade, along with animal agriculture’s significant contribution to climate change, all contribute to global extinction of more species than any other cause.
