North and South still remained two separate countries, South Korea prospered from the Aid of the U.S. and other supporting countries, South Korea is growing rapidly, and is boosting foreign trade. Political Differences keep the North and South apart, and North Korea is pretty much the opposite, was left with serious economic problems, shortages of energy and food.

Think of it this way, how did the Civil War affect the Confederacy? Or the Union? They were separated. Relatives were separated and communication was lost. Men who could have easily have been cousins, step-brothers, etc... could have shot and killed each other and not have known. The people of North Korea were happy though when a stable government rose. The entire peninsula was under Japanese control and they were glad to be free from them. You might be thinking: "How can anyone be happy under Communism?" Well, it's the same thing as when you meet a new person, you can't seem to find many flaws in them, no?

So, the people of North Korea (mostly, you can never generalize) were glad to have a stable government and they still do.
