The heart is a muscle, and exercise is great for it! Strength training helps to enlarge your blood vessels so the blood flows quicker, which means the heart won't have to beat as fast (or work as hard) as it would in someone with smaller vessels. Cardio exercise, such as aerobics, kick-boxing, or even a brisk walk raises the heart rate which also makes the heart stronger so that it can endure more. Basically, the stronger the heart is the better it works! You should try to do a combination of both, as this is the best way to help your heart stay healthy!

A person's heart rate will increase during exercise. This is because the heart is having to pump faster in order to supply enough blood to the muscles and other areas of the body. Usually, the point of aerobic exercise is to get your heart in a target heart rate for 30 minutes. This target heart rate will depend on age, but a heart rate of 140 would probably be the most common.

After the exercise, your heart is able to rest. By taking part in daily or regular exercise, you strengthen your heart and it requires less effort to pump the blood. As a result, heart rate will decrease in the long run.

A more strenuous exercise like running will increase your heart rate more than a less strenuous exercise like walking. What is most important is to do some sort of exercise regularly.
