How fast was Charles Lindbergh's plane?
he Nx-2ll or Spirit Of St.Louis, more or a less a customized
Ryan Brougham built exdpressly for the Trans-Atlantic role, was, a
one-man craft and was equipped with a periscope to view forward.
The craft had ( I am guessing based on similar light plane) an
economical cruise speed of about l20 MPH There are a number of
books out specificaloy ont he4 Lindbergh flight and these do get
into technicalities. One assumes you are referring to the Spirit Of
St.Louis, Lindbergh, of course, flew various types of palnes in the
Army Air Corps and as a civil pilot with the air mail. The craft is
on display at the National Air and Space Museum so one can get a
close-up view. O weome interest the return (flight) from France to
the Us was made via a US Naval Cruiser, the craft having been
presumably de-fueled and crated. the design rewquirements of the
Ortieg contest only stipulated a one-way flight between New York
and Paris, not a round tri! Contrary to some things llike the
Gordon Bennett races, Neither the flgiht itself nor the contest was
