At normal conditions, nitrogen does not react with any other element to form compounds. At very low temperatures or excited conditions, it reacts with almost every element. With oxygen, it forms a lot of compounds including nitrates, nitrites and nitrogen oxides.

Nitrogen, by itself, will form compounds with Silver, Aluminium, Boron, Barium, Bromine, Carbon, Calcium, Cerium, chlorine, caesium, Copper, Dysprosium, Erbium, Europium, Fluorine, Gallium, Gadolinium, Germanium, Hydrogen, Hafnium, Mercury, Holmium, Iodine, Indium, Lanthanum, Lithium, Lutetium, Magnesium, Molybdenum, Niobium, Neodymium, Oxygen, Praseodymium, Tantalum, Terbium, Titanium, Uranium, Vanadium, Zirconium, Sodium, Sulphur, Silicon, Lead, Plutonium, Thorium, Thallium.

In addition, ions containing nitrogen, such as nitrates, cyanides, amides, will combine with many other elements.
