1970-1972, SS was just a trim package, not anything special with the engine. So all 1970-72 El Camino's came with either a 350ci SBC, 396ci BBC, or a 454ci BBC. However the 396ci BBC was actually a 402ci BBC due tooff-center pistons so the factories had to bore out the cylinder ports 0.0030" which caused the 396 to really be a 402.
