what engine can you use to replace the 5.4 liter V-8 engine using the same mounting brackets, yet being a stronger engine?
Drain the engine oil. Using a jack for support, unbolt the engine from the motor mounts. Raise the engine just enough, then unbolt the pan and pull it out. Clean the engine block surface, then install the new pan and gasket.
I would suggest using Google to find this answer. but a quick summary would be: disconnect battery remove all wiring connected to engine drain engine oild drain radiator fluid drain tranny oil ( if comming off as a separate peice) remove intake remove all house connected to engine Unbolt all the engine mounts and tranny mounts using an engine lifter, hoist the engine out of the engine bay repeat the steps backwards to install engine don't forget to replace all the engine fluids that were drained!
Using a jack, keep the engine supported. One at a time, unbolt a motor mount, the engine may have to be raised slightly to remove the mount. Fit the new mount back into the hole and bolt in place.
" The engine is bolted to the frame using motor mounts."
You support the engine at the oil pan using a clock of wood on the jack. Then remove the engine mount trough bolts. Jack the engine up until it clears the mounts. Then remove the old ones and install the new ones. Lower the engine until the holes match up, install the through bolts, torque them to specs and lower the jack the rest of the way.
Support the engine of the Durango with a jack, using a board on top. One at a time, remove the bolts from a motor mount. Raise the engine slightly, and remove the mount. Replace the mount and bolt it in. Repeat on the other side.
The engine oil capacity of a 4.9 liter Pontiac engine is five quarts. The automaker recommends using 10W-30 motor oil.

With the car front end safely lifted, support the engine with a jack, using a board on top. Unbolt the motor mounts one at a time. Slightly lift the engine, then remove and replace the motor mount. Repeat for the other side.
I believe it was in 1997; at least, that's when a rubber-mounted engine first appeared on the Sportster lineup.
using a block of wood to protect the oil pan, lift the engine with a jack to take the load off the mounts while changing them
General instructions for replacing motor mounts on ANY vehicle: Put a floor jack under the engine, distributing the weight evenly using a board or some other object, just take the weight from the motor mounts by jacking up the engine slightly. Loosten the nuts that hold the engine to the motor mounts, jack up the engine until you have an inch or two clearance. finish removing the motor mounts, then put the replacment motor mounts in the same place. Lower the engine back onto the motor mounts, but keep the weight off the motor mounts until you have put the nuts back in place. After everything is back in place, take the rest of the weight off the jack and you're done.
