Locate the petcock under the engine. put a pan under it large enough to hold 5 quarts of oil. open the petcock, open the fill hole at the top of motor and let oil drain out. Remove filter and replace with new one, using a little of the old oil to lubricate the seal ring on the oil filter before screwing it on. Once oil has drained, replace petcock and fill engine with new oil using the amount of oil recommended for the year and motor size of your arctic cat. The 2001 400 4x4 Arctic Cat takes 4.75 quarts of 10-40W motor oil. Replace the fill hole cap , start the ATV to circulate the oil and make sure no leaks. Dispose of the old oil properly.
Arctic Cat recommends 10W/40 or 5W/30 for the 650, 700, and 1000 Prowler. Any "Wet Clutch Compatible" Motorcycle or ATV motor oil in this range will work. Automotive motor oils contain friction modifiers that can cause wear and heat to the clutch assembly. Arctic Cat recomends their 0W-40 synthetic oil. But you can use most any motorcycle/atv grade oil either synthetic or standard with around the same weight, 10w-40 is pretty common and cheaper then the cat oil.
