What happens if your four wheeler runs out of oil?

if your quad runs out of oil 1 of 2 things will happen. the crank bearings will over heat and shred apart and that will cause your piston not to rotate around the crank like its suppose to and it will beat up your cylinder walls pretty bad. the other thing is if the crank bearings don't go first the piston could get the cylinder walls hot and fuse itself into the cylinder. i had the tube that oil flows from the reservoir into the case break and it shredded my bearings. $700 worth of parts.

What does it mean when a four wheeler smokes?

It simply means that the ATV has reached a curious age. If your ATV is smoking, just tell it that smoking is harmful but you trust him to make his own decisions. Eventually, he will make the right choice and quit. Curiousity is a natural step in ATV development. Are other ATVs in the area smoking as well?

Where do you find a repair manual for a Western Field model M72 lever action?

You must have a Western Field Model 72C lever action rifle, which is a Mossberg 472C. Try gunpartscorp.com or eBay for an owner's manual. A repair manual is going to be tough as the gun is not well known.

I filled a new ATV battery with electrolyte fluid and charged it for four hours and it leaked fluid out of top with the caps on .Why did that happen?

"It should have been distilled water and sulfuric acid. You use electrolyte fluid for metal plating"

Actually Jason, battery acid IS an electrolyte. As for the original question, I assume you used the electrolyte that was supplied with the battery. If you still have the instructions that come with the battery, you might note that they say to fill to the "Low" mark, then charge the battery for the specified time. After this is complete, the cells can be topped-off to the "Full" mark.

Keep in mind that as lead-acid batteries are being charged, they emit hydrogen and oxygen gas. Since the bubbles can and do get trapped in the glass separating mats, the fluid level goes up during charging, then will drop back down once the bubbles escape.

For future reference, one of the latest additions to our sport is the "AGM" (Absorbed Glass Mat) battery. There's no loose electrolyte sloshing around inside, which means that they don't care what position they're mounted in. Also, they're completely sealed. Since most small batteries don't last more than two to three years, it's something to keep in mind for next time. Nathan

How fast in miles per hour would 49cc be?

Other factors such as weight of passenger(s), grade, transmission ratios, etc will influence the top speed of 49cc. Assuming it is a moped or scooter, it has been designed not to exceed 30MPH (although many will) to comply with moped/scooter laws since speeds of above 30 mph can classify it as a motorcycle. Again assuming it is a scooter or moped, if you are clocked on radar exceeding 30mph the scooter/moped may no longer be classified as such and may be reclassified as a motorcycle - and the driver may receive numerous citations, i.e. no motorcycle license, no helmet, no motorcycle registration, no insurance, etc. Hope this helped.

What causes an ATV to backfire and jerk when you try to ride it?

water in gas or out of time change the spark plug and check the carb bowl for water if there is then drain the tank and clean the carb Additional comment: Often when you have a motorcycle or ATV that is backfiring you will find that your bike is having a problem with bad spark timing. This will also cause your Jerking... Take your bike to a profession and have them look at the carburetor adjustment and the timing.

How much air should a ATV tire have?

Most manufacturers' ATV tires are designed to run at a low pressure gauge, between three and ten P.S.I.

When mounting, never exceed the pressure listed on the sidewall for bead seating. With a stubborn tire, it may be necessary to release the air & re-lube the beads a couple of times before the beads will seat correctly. If in doubt, take the tire to a professional.

For best performance, you'll need to do some experimenting. Many riders will run higher pressures for hard surfaces. This lowers rolling resistance for a higher top speed, but it will also decrease your ride quality and increase wear in the center of the tire, making it more susceptible to impact damage.

Running at a lower than recommended tire pressure increases footprint; which, under most conditions, will also increase traction. However, under inflation can also cause premature tire failure (from excessive sidewall flex), sidewall and tread cracking, and possibly bent rims. Excessively low pressure also runs a higher risk of popping the tire bead off of the wheel, which will bring your ride to a sudden end.

I recommend starting at the manufacturer's recommended tire pressure and then adjusting up or down a single P.S.I. at a time until you find what works best for your riding style and conditions. On the rears, you'll be looking for the setting that provides the best traction and ride, but in my opinion, the fronts are the most important. Too low of a pressure will make your quad track poorly and turn like a tank. It is common to run different pressures from front to rear, but you should always have the same pressure from side to side on the same axle. A difference as small as one P.S.I. between tires that are sharing an axle can cause the machine to pull to the side with the lower pressure. Keep in mind that this is very subjective area. Each rider will find their own sweet spot at a different pressure for the given terrain.
