As the Aztec ruler Montezuma II insilled resentment into his Aztec people, many Aztecs began to predict terrible things were about to happan. They saw bad omens in many everyday occurances, such as lightning, large clouds, and eclipses. The worst though, was the arrival of the spanish, who fit the image of Quetzalcoatl, a god who promised to return to them. With their fair skn, and white beards, they fit the image of Quetzalcoatl. The spanish, who were treated as gods, ended up enslaving many Aztecs, forcing them to mine for gold, and silver, killing many who resisted, and essentially destroying their culture.
