American Empire got its first license to write insurance in Texas in 1954. It wrote industrial life policies, which are generally low face amount policies, the premium for which is paid weekly. They are sometimes referred to as "burial policies" because of their low face value.
In 1956, Lincoln Life Insurance Company reinsured American Empire's industrial life business, meaning that it became financially responsible for the payment of claims under those policies.
In 1959 American Empire moved its home office to McAllen, Texas.
