The giraffe needed to reach the juicy leaves on the tops of the trees, over a long period of time the trees probably got taller, as did the giraffe
An adult giraffe's neck may be as long as 2 meters, or 6 feet 7 inches in length. From the lighter side:An adult giraffe's neck- what the heck!Grows as long as it's meant to be-It may be six feet, or even five feet,Or even as short as three.
The factors in the evolution of any organism are too numerous to list. After all, natural selection guided not just the evolution of the giraffe from its immediate precursors, but also the evolution of those precursors to their precursors, and so on. But if you're asking why the giraffe evolved such a long neck, then there are a number of hypotheses to consider. For instance, the giraffe's neck might have lengthened due to competition over foliage (food) with other grazers. Or it might have lengthened due to sexual selection - potential mates favouring those competitors who might win a headfight with a rival. Or it might have evolved due to the pressure of predation - those giraffes with a longer neck sooner being able to spot a predator. Any of these is possible - and it might be that the giraffe's neck evolved due to a combination of these.
Because a giraffe has a long neck doesnt mean it sleeps standing. like sheep it curls itslegs under its body. -McGreggle-
Artificial and natural selection are two matters which are very different however can be easily confused.Natural selection describes the process of evolution. Natural selection occurs when there are two animals of the same species who have slightly different features. For example, thousands of year ago, giraffe's had short necks. However one happened out of chance to be born with a long neck. The giraffe could then reach the leaves and eat what the short-necks could not. It was easier for this giraffe to survive and in times of famine where the other giraffe died of starvation, the long-neck did not. He was best adapted to his environment, and so he survived longer, and could breed. His children carried his long neck gene and so survived more efficiently than short necks. As a result the long-neck giraffe thrived and the population grew, while the short necks died out. Soon, all giraffes had long necks due to their one common ancestor.So:-Mutated baby with long neck born-Child better adapted-Survived-Bred and passed on genes-These survived and bred-Population of long necks grew-Short necks died out due to starvationDue to natural selection, which is the process of these adaptions changing, all giraffe's now have long necks.Artificial selection differs as humans intentional choose mutated offspring and breed them, to create certain characteristics. There is no difference between the processes however evidently survival is not key as the humans look after the animals. The only difference is the key term 'artificial' meaning that there is human interference.Hope this helpslofty
Characteristics acquired during an organism's life are generally not passed on through genes. Just because giraffes stretch their neck doesn't mean they will get longer. Good luck! ~ Jack
A giraffe.
It is a beetle with a long neck like a giraffe?
Natural selection is where an animal changes over a period of time to adapt to it's environment. For example a giraffe might not have a long enough neck to reach the top leaves on a tree so over many generations the neck becomes longer and longer until it can reach those leaves. This ties in with evolution because the giraffe is evolving to cope with it's environment.
a giraffe is tall because its neck is long & its neck is long because it has to reach very high for food
One is the giraffe.
A giraffe has tongue that is 18-20 inches long, its legs are 6-7 feet tall, and its neck is 6 feet long and weighs over 600 pounds alone. In total the giraffe weighs over 3,000 pounds!!! The giraffe is the tallest animal in the world!!!

There long neck or there spots
A giraffe has adapted to live in open and dry grasslands by the evolution of it's long neck. This enables to reach things that are high and normally out of reach for other animals.
How the Giraffe Got His Long Neck - 1926 was released on: USA: 7 February 1926
A giraffe has a long neck to reach the foliage on trees that is its staple diet. The spotted skin serves as camouflage.
