Pedro Escobar was the navigator who helped Vasco da Gama, the Portuguese explorer, sail around the Cape of Good Hope to India. The voyage began in 1497.
His name was Bartolomeu Dias and he did it around 1487.He named it the good hope cape after passing it, as before it was called The monsoons cape because of the heavy storms in that area.

The best known may be Vasco da Gama (sea route to India), Pedro Álvares Cabral (landed on Brazil) and Bartolomeu Dias (rounded the Cape of Good Hope, southern tip of Africa). Magellan was also raised in Lisbon.
