Between 1700 and 1800, life was different between the North and South due to a more developed economic base in the North. Major ports in the North such as Boston, New York & Philadelphia were places for shipbuilding and population centers that supported more industrial development than in the South. Although the North did have agricultural resources, the South was almost dependent upon it's agricultural base. Along with the agricultural base were slave workers.
