The name Las Vegas refers to a well which allowed the settlement by Mormon missionaries in 1855. The well is along a creek with springs. The settlers built a fort to serve as a trail stop between Salt Lake City and Los Angeles. The fort had 14-foot adobe walls that extended about 150 feet. It was protected by Army troops from about 1860 through the Civil War.
Popular modern history credits the opening of the Flamingo Hotel and casino with the establishment of Las Vegas Strip. However, there were several other gaming establishments along Highway 91 since 1931, which eventually led to the development of Las Vegas as a metropolitan area.
Hoover Dam and its vast water supply allows the nearby metropolis of Las Vegas to exist in the desert with less overdrafting of its groundwater basin, but is not a direct cause of the city's existence.
The legalization of gambling in 1931 led to the advent of the casino-hotels, for which Las Vegas is famous. The success of the city's initial casino businesses was owed to American organized crime. Most of the original large casinos were managed or at least funded under mob figures Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel, Meyer Lansjy or other mob figures at this time.
Las Vegas, Nevada was discovered in 1829 by a party of explorers led by Antonio Armijo. He was a Mexican trader searching for a route to Los Angeles, California. Las Vegas remained virtually unknown until 1844 when explorer John C. Fremont settled in the Las Vegas Valley. It was officially founded in 1905, but wasn't incorporated until 1911.

The exact date is unknown, but Rafael Rivera became the first known non-Indian to set foot in the oasis-like Las Vegas Valley. The abundant artesian spring water discovered at Las Vegas shortened the Spanish Trail to Los Angeles, eased rigors for Spanish traders and hastened the rush west for California gold. Between 1830 and 1848, the name "Vegas," as shown on maps of that day, was changed to Las Vegas which means "The Meadows" in Spanish. Some 14 years after Rivera's discovery, John C. Fremont led an overland expedition west and camped at Las Vegas Springs on May 13, 1844. His name is remembered today in neon as well as museums and history books. The Fremont Hotel-Casino in Downtown Las Vegas bears his name as does Fremont Street -- the main thoroughfare through the heart of casino-lined Glitter Gulch. According to one of his interviews, Dyrdek said he's part owner of a hotel which "almost" led him tp developing a hotel in Las Vegas. It seems that Rob's plan of developing his own hotel in Las Vegas didn't materialize. In the first season episode of Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory entitled Hotel, Motel... Robbie's Inn, Rob was offered the opportunity to redevelop and add his name to his very own Las Vegas Motel. Thrilled by the prospect of becoming a motelier, Dyrdek brought the Drama and Corpo to Vegas with him, to take a look at his new potential business venture. Apparently, Liko Smith, who was featured on that particular episode and tried to convince Rob to invest in a Las Vegas hotel didn't deny that he owed money to the government. In September 2008, he was arrested by the Las Vegas Metropolitian Police on suspicion of tax evasion filed by the El Dorado County District Attorney's

Las Vegas officially stopped using silver dollars as currency in the 1960s. Although silver dollars were popular in the early days of the city, the growing reliance on paper currency and gaming tokens led to their decline. By the mid-1960s, most casinos and businesses had phased them out in favor of more convenient forms of payment.
Las Vegas was founded as a city on May 15, 1905.
I am not sure what you mean by "make." If you mean to inhabit or live there, the original residents of Las Vegas were Native Americans (back then called Indians). But the territory was later visited by explorers from both the United States and Mexico. The government of Mexico believed its explorers had gotten there first-- Raphael Rivera gave the city its name (which means "the meadows" in Spanish) in 1829. But the U.S. government disagreed, noting that an American expedition first arrived in the region in 1827, led by Jedediah Smith. And another expedition, led by John C. Fremont in 1844, was so successful that many American pioneers decided to move there.
