What water regulation adaptations might have evolved in protists hypertonic habitats such as great salt lake. In habitats with changing salt concentration?

User Avatar

Asked by Andreasolla

Protists in hypertonic habitats like the Great Salt Lake may have evolved adaptations like efficient ion pumps to regulate salt concentration within their cells. They may also possess specialized proteins or osmolytes to help maintain water balance by osmoregulation. In environments with changing salt concentrations, protists may have evolved the ability to adjust their osmoregulatory mechanisms dynamically to cope with fluctuations in their surroundings.

What is Salt Lake's absolute location on earth?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

When searching for an absolute location, one must remember that ALL locations, boundaries, borders, etc. as defined by humans are relative to the positions of other things. Our latitude and longitude measurements are relative to the position of the sun throughout the year as well as the orientation of the magnetic poles (the latter changes over the eons). Other forms of location designation depend on the relative position of the stars.

You must also remember that all of these locations change over time - the precession of the equinoxes and plate tectonics are the primary reasons for these changes.

Regardless, the quick answer is:

Salt Lake City 40° 46' N 111° 58' W

How long did it take for Mormons to trvel from Nauvoo to Salt Lake City Utah?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The first wagon train took over 1 year and 5 months. The first wagon train left Nauvoo, Illinois in Feb. of 1846. They crossed Iowa and camped for the winter at a place they called Winter Quarter, Neb., which is near Omaha, Neb. In the spring of 1847 the first wagons departed Winter Quarter for the west (April 14,1847) and arrived in Salt Lake City, Utah, on June 24, 1847 (that portion took over 3 months). The original distance traveled was 1,300 miles. After the first wagon train, others followed for the next 20 years and the time became much quicker. By 1857 handcart companies crossed the plains in about 3 1/2 months. Those traveling individually on horsback or in light buggies could make the journey in just a few weeks.

Why was Salt Lake City chosen Utah's capital?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The Mormon pioneers actually chose to settle in Ohio. When they were kicked out due to persecution, they chose Missouri. When they were kicked out of there due to an extermination order by the governor, they chose Illinois. When the Illinois governor asked them to leave, Joseph Smith told them they would finally find freedom to worship in the Rocky Mountains, where there was nobody to persecute them or kick them out. After Joseph's murder, Brigham Young lead a group of Church members to find their Rocky Mountain refuge. Brigham supposedly saw the valley and the temple that would be built there in a dream. After coming over a ridge and seeing the Salt Lake Valley, he said "This is the right place, drive on!". Salt Lake City has been the headquarters of the Church since that time.
