Be very careful, I had a loose fanbelt on my Renault Clio 1.4 - it drove perfectly well to the garage apart from the steering being obviously difficult - just had a rackity noise - but fan belt was still in one piece. They looked at it, said it needed replacing - so left it with them, however, when I went to get it back - they told me that it wasn't driving well - not at all it was juddering and miss-firing. They did a diagnostic and found one cylinder was not working, another one was really almost dead and the other two were OK. They then decided that the fan belt had broken and some of it had got wrapped around the cam belt and damaged the valves - maybe. So, in effect the car was a write off as they quoted over a £1000 to open it up and have a look and see if the engine could be repaired. I drove it home in shock! It is now sitting on my drive- I only replaced the clutch 4 weeks ago. It was running fine. I still can't believe what has happened.

Loosen the timing belt adjustment pulley located on the side of the engine. When the pulley creates enough slack slide the new belt onto the cams. Make sure the cams are aligned correctly.
