Most crowns are made in dental laboratories by highly trained dental lab technicians. Some dentists do have the facilities to make crowns themselves though. Always ask where your crown is being made as many dentists ship them to foreign countries (such as China or Mexico) and are not required to inform you of this unless you ask. Crowns made in foreign countries are not subject to the regulations of the FDA.

The mineral commonly used in dentistry, medicine, and jewelry is gold. In dentistry, gold is often used for dental crowns and fillings due to its biocompatibility and durability. In medicine, gold compounds can be utilized in certain treatments, such as rheumatoid arthritis. In jewelry, gold is valued for its luster and resistance to tarnish, making it a popular choice for various ornamental pieces.
