JPEG, PNG, PSD, TIFF, PDF, Ai, GIF are most popular formats. But you can open and many others like EPS, BMP and so on.
PSD files are Adobe Photoshop Document files. PSD files can be opened and edited with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Photoshop Elements, and will also work with Corel's Paintshop Pro tool.
TIFF files are image files. They need to be opened in some type of image viewing program or image editing program like Photoshop.

First, make sure the files you have are ABR files, they are the proper photoshop brushes files. Then, go to: My Computer>Local Disk>Program Files>Adobe>Photoshop>Presets>Brushes and paste the ABR file/s there. Hope this helps.
